Head Instructor: Alex Loo - 6th Dan
Alex Loo is ranked Shihan Rokudan (sixth-degree black belt) and has practiced aikido for over 40 years. His training in aikido began at the age of 15 at Aikido Kensankai in Montreal under the direction of Jim Wright. Since then, he has practiced, trained and taught in many dojos: Aikido Tendokai, Hong Kong Aikikai, Ottawa Aikikai, Toronto Aikikai, and Vancouver West Aikikai. He also has trained in other arts: karate, tai chi, and qi-qong.
Alex Loo is a student of the late Yukio Kawahara Shihan. His aikido has been greatly influenced under many years of mentorship and private teaching from Kawahara Shihan.
Over the years, he has participated in numerous seminars and trained under many Shihans who were direct students of O Sensei (the founder of aikido), notably Tamura Sensei, Yamada Sensei, Chiba Sensei, and Kanai Sensei.
Alex Loo is currently a Shidoin for Ontario and a member of the examination and technical committee of the Canadian Aikido Federation (CAF). Alex Loo demonstrates the basic techniques in the CAF Beginners Training DVD.
Assistant Instructor: Rika Murota - 3rd Dan
Rika Murota attained the rank of Sandan from Hayato Osawa Shihan of Hombu dojo in 2012
Assistant Instructor: Wai Chak - 3rd Dan
Wai Chak started Aikido in 1996 at JCCC Aikikai after he graduated from university. Previous to this, he practiced Tai Kwon Do for ten years. He attained the ranks of Shodan and Nidan from the late Yukio Kawahara Shihan and, in 2012, attained the rank of Sandan from Hayato Osawa Shihan of Hombu dojo.
